Kemps Gallons for Good Program Provides 4,000 Children with One Year’s Worth of School Supplies
Kemps, Kids In Need Foundation, Green Bay Packers Invite Wisconsin Students and Teachers to Day of Free School Supply Shopping
ST. PAUL, MINN. — October 8, 2013 — Today Kemps announced the culmination of the Gallons for Good program that, through a donation to the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF), will provide free school supplies to 4,000 children in need in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The program committed a portion of every gallon of Kemps Select Milk sold in August and September to KINF, up to $40,000. Supplies will be distributed to Wisconsin schools during an event at the Tundra Tailgate Zone, located at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., on Monday, Oct. 14. Teachers and students from the Green Bay Area Public School District will pick up much-needed school supplies, courtesy of Kemps.
“Supporting families through involvement in our communities is one of Kemps’ core beliefs,” said Rachel Kyllo, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Kemps. “That support comes from providing families tools to not only to nourish themselves, but nourish their minds. Kemps is honored to provide Minnesota and Wisconsin students with a full year’s worth of school supplies through the Gallons for Good program.”
It is estimated that 18 percent of children in Wisconsin currently live below the poverty line and often go without the school supplies necessary to succeed in school, according to Children’s Defense Fund. The Wisconsin schools that will receive supplies from the Gallons for Good program were identified by the Kids In Need Foundation and the school districts as having at least 70 percent of their students enrolled in the federal free and reduced lunch program.
“Thanks to the wonderful support from Kemps’ customers we’re able to provide a year’s worth of school supplies to 4,000 children in need,” said Dave Smith, executive director of the Kids In Need Foundation. “We’re proud to partner with a local company with a dedication to serving its communities and supporting education, and we look forward to providing the much-needed school supplies to these students and teachers. This contribution will not only help provide children with basic learning tools, but also the added confidence they need to be successful in school.”
Kemps has been partners with the Green Bay Packers since 2008 and has committed to giving back to the Wisconsin communities.
“Kemps has been a great partner to the Green Bay Packers for six years,” said Bill Hawker, Green Bay Packers manager of corporate sales. “When Kemps partnered with us, they not only partnered with the Packers, but with Wisconsin communities. Through the Gallons for Good program, Kemps is showing their commitment to our local communities and schools and we are honored to be a part of it.”
In addition to the day of school supply pick-up in Green Bay, Kemps will host a shopping event for Minnesota students and teachers at the KINF store in St. Paul, Minn., to present school supplies to the students and teachers from Twin Cities, Duluth and Rochester area schools.
